life took notice of the last entry.

Scene: Mel in Forge of Souls, random drop of Titanium band(s?) of something. Belt, I think. Nice purple. I'm lagging a little, and could NOT figure out why when I was hitting the "smack things around" buttons the animation was me sitting around doing nothing. So I make a quick compare and see yes, this is an increase in strength, all green increase, hooray need and move on.

Turns out it was a tanking belt, the tank sent a message wanting to know if I was going to need every tanking thing that drops since that makes this a moot run for her - and then leaves the party. I'm still sitting there trying to type "what, what?" in between killing things, so it's more like "wa11289t, w44" before I gave up. -_-;

I feel kinda really bad about this. All I saw was no negative changes and no MAJOR changes to current gear, since when there's a +20 odd points, that usually means I'm upping a stat I don't use, and since I try to be on spec - siiigh. I would've been happy to trade back, I just - argh. And I feel guilty, since I don't tend to think dodge is a tank spec (i was under the impression it was all defense and stam, and why I should be caring about crit rating still confuses me, but i guess I can read up on that somewhere when I do care enough) - but most of all, because I am collecting tank gear. Not enough to snag from someone in legitimate need, I think and hope, but still. Arg. If she's damn well WAITED -

I guess I'm also hurt by the fact that it was a roll of the dice. I don't mind someone telling me I'm missing something obvious, but I guess I expect to be given a chance to correct things. Maybe. Not sure. And is that entitlement? I also don't know. Not to mention was it entitlement on her part to think that since a "tanking item" dropped she's automatically get it? I don't know that one either, but since it puts someone else in a bad light instead of me I'm shying away from it.

Also feel guilty that when a guildy (who was there to help explain some of what the hell I'm being stupid about, thankfully in a very nice way) and I were running the earth boss earlier, the plate dps armor came up. I was in a hurry to juggle things IRL, so I smacked need and did what needed doing IRL. Came back to find I'd gotten the needy achievement - which only the guildy had rolled against.

Mel already has the plate dps armor. I was doing this to make sure the guild person could get it no matter what, but since he was the only one rolling for it, it seems kinda condescending. I mean, yes, I did trade it right the hell away, but does that take something from the experience/joy of winning their own damn thing from them? or am I being crazy again?

I suspect the latter, just.... meh.

Meh, if the tank is going to pull a flounce and bounce when obviously you could still trade the thing back, that's their loss.

Only thing tho, there is no more +def rating, it went away in 4.0. There are just talents in the tank trees of the various classes that make you uncrushable if you're in defensive stance, bear form, blood presence, etc., and all tanking gear with +def became +dodge instead.

.... how did i MISS that?!?!? Ooooh dear. Ok. Well. That DOES explain some things. I tend to look at crit rating and dodge as secondary stats for number crunchers, and I know I have an intellectual disconnect where I think "dodge=mincing away before getting hit=based on agility=something rogues do!", prolly from something misguided in my D&D days, and - argh.
