norcumiSo, in all wonder of wonders, I went to see another movie. Don't expect this to happen for another few years*.
Princess and the Frog! Disney 2D animation! WHOOT! Ok, so it was silly and the plot was disjointed in places and come ON, it's a Disney Princess/Quest movie, so predictable in a lovely fashion. I adore the homages they had to - well, many many things. Their prior movies. N'Orleans. The musical styles and varieties of the region, the CULTURAL styles of the region. The art and music and dance (!!!) of the 20's. The fact that they know what their movies do to alter the way kids grow up and look at the world. And let's face it, they had a hard and complex message they were trying to send, and I think they pulled it off. It was a lovely film, I remain a HUUUUGE Keith David fangirl (HOLY SHIT HE WAS SINGING!!! EEEEEEEEEEEE!), and I recommend this.
Just... go in remembering it's a Disney kid's movie. And that makes many things better.
Crits? Disjointed, as I said - I can't tell if I forgave fairy tale logic easier when I was younger, or if they used to do a better job writing a coherent narrative back in the day. But come on. First time they've done 2D for the big screen in years, I'm willing to cut them some slack for depending on the shiny to keep me entertained.
Ok, fine, I'll forgive most anything that involves Keith David and Jim Cummings singing.***
*As much as I'm casting guilty but eager and giggly looks at the new Sherlock Holmes flick. CHEEESE!!!! Camp! HOLMES! And a Watson that is guranteed to be of the kick-ass holy-shit-they-remembered-that-he-has-a-military-background-and-will-thus-whoop-ass style! EEEEE!**

ursulav's old Livejournal entries? I totally dig her writing style, but I have the unfortunate tendency to pick up and mimic anything I'm reading/watching, so... y'all are probably going to keep getting asterisk central.
*** The thing I will probably not forgive, even though I will most likely never see it and I know this policy is stupid, is a remake of Clash of the Titans that doesn't involve claymation, crappy or otherwise. It's just not done! It means it won't BE Clash of any Titans, it's just another crappy remake! ::seethe::
