Nostalgia and OMG I WAAAAAANNNNT!!!!
So... between shuffling through my old music and setting down for a good dose of Jem music (videos), and then going to actual CDs, I find myself surfing along the net listening to Chumbawamba. Mmmm. I've forgotten how much I dig their stuff. Upbeat sound, gritty cynical messages. Aaaahhh.
Strangest thing. I also found myself looking for a book to read yesterday, and after shuffling through the resident Bookcases O Doom, I actually settled on The Dark Elf Trilogy. R.A. Salvatore's masterpiece, IMO. It doesn't get any better than Sojourn. Anyway, as always, I find myself stunned by the nuances and new elements I find when I reread a book awhile after the last time, and Salvatore really was a good writer back in the day. Yeah, he still can do an incredible fight scene, but characterwise, and plot wise... meh. Legacy and everything after was just sooooo downhill.
Back on topic. I love this trilogy. I just started rereading it yesterday. And today I checked a forum I sometimes lurk on, every few months or so, and oh my fsking GODS - you can own Twinkle and Icingdeath.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNT!!!!!!
*covetcovetcovetcovetcovetcovetcovetcovetcovetcovetdroolcovet*
I swear, if I had enough money and no student loans and and and -
Right there. Right on the wall, crossed all nice and pretty with the sheaths - wait, does it come with the sheaths? YES! Yes, they do come with sheaths! - with the sheaths pointing left and right nicely lined up underneath.
COVET, DAMMIT!!!
;)
And now, for the obligatory fangirl nitpicking. Why the hells would there be drow runes on these blades? One was picked up from a fsking dragon, and while I don't recall where Twinkle came from, I KNOW it sure as hells wasn't dark elven. Not to mention why are they so exactly alike, given the fact that they were gotten at two different times, from two different locations? >_< Bad, bad Salvatore. No cookie.
Finally, one last wail: Ick. Dammit, why do they NEVER do a decent pic of Drizzt? Once again I think Homeland, Exile, and Sojourn were Teh Best, even for cover art (once again, Sojourn kicking the almighty ass). Why did they have to redo it for the trilogy collection, instead of doing something nice and artsy like making a montage of the three sweet covers, Homeland at bottom leftish, Exile middle, Sojourn top rightish? Ya know, instead of the ugly new drawing of Wrinkle!Drizzt.
Ah well. Could still buy the pointy pretties.

Apologies if I stumble on toes; I know I don't know much about 3rd edition at all. I just am comfortable where I am, and think 3rd editions suck.
Thoughts? Please? As obsessive as I am, I really honest to gods like hearing all views.

As far as game systems, I've seen far worse...like games calling for a "d60" roll...and that was for character creation...^_^

... waitasec. 3.5???? They're upgrading already???
d60- hehehe. I've always wanted to find a use for my d30... other than the general use of "booooored now... how long can I make this spin like a top before the DM sics more wererats on us?"
();-)

Meh.
I want my drow's name in drow runes tattooed on me. :D I'm such a loser. ;)
I play 2.5 and 3.0, and while I prefer 2.5, I find the proficiencies in 3.0 make a little bit more sense -- or, at least, are a little easier to plot out properly so you don't have a character who cannot function in either the wilderness or a city. Granted, parties should make up for your lacks, but when the stupid GM sinks your boat and your city-rat can't swim (and neither can anyone else in the party)...
I find 2.5 is better in terms of fleshing out a character, but 3.0 easier to just pick up and play. It took playing Icewind Dale 2 for me to really grasp 3.0 despite having played 4 sessions with it so far. ;)

... thank you, Mr. Salvatore. ::thwacks said former author with a hell of a clue-by-four::
Tattoo: but that's so cool!!! Mind if I ask where? And is this the drow mentioned in your memories area?
"I'm not a stalker, I just play one on TV."
Also, what do you think of the fact that any time I interact with you in LJ I'm basically a question fiend? ^_^; Hope that doesn't bother you. Feel free to ask whatever right back if it tickles your fancy.
2.5 vs 3.0: Hooooom. Sounds like it might be something to get into. That, and finally giving in and - ahem. "Investing" in Neverwinter Nights. Maybe. Or something.
Swimming: I always felt vaguely silly taking that all the bleeping time, only to NEVER, not once, having to use it. Because at that point I would so be laughing at everyone else in the party. Admittedly, we tend to have strange sessions anyways.
"The doors slam closed, and the room starts filling with acid. You all start hallucinating."
"Ok, characters done? Good. You're walking along a path near the town, and.... you.... hear money in the graveyard. Yeah."

Not sure where I'd get his name, but it's SO tempting to get it around my wrist where I can cover it with my watch.
Still have yet to play NWN, although I technically own it. D'oh. ;)
I like being asked questions, as it lets me feel happy responding... I'm kinda shy, and often feel like I'm just offering my opinions unasked-for. Which is dumb, as I bounce every time I get a comment or a response to a comment. Blah. ;)
Godsdamned swimming. Taver, my latest tabletop incarnation, has his own LJ as well (yes, I'm a dork -- my werewolf LARP char also has one) in celebration of him gaining the reading/writing proficiency. ;) And bemoaning his lack of swimming. And the fact that the Incredible Sinking Barbarian sunk too fast in his full-plate to cast water breathing on anyone but himself.
"So it's the middle of a storm, the ship is sinking thanks to shearing off its bottom on the reef, and there are HARPIES on the shore."
"Yeah. Oh, roll a save vs. spell."
"Mike, did we mention we hate you? A lot."

As for the tattoo - wow. That. Is. Sweet. Prolly look damn spiffy, as well. One random thought, though - isn't there some sort of problem a lot of places have about tattoos too near the hand? I'm trying to recall where this came up.... I suspect I was watching some cop show or another, and it was a Plot Point that someone had a tattoo on the back of their hand, and that's Not Allowed in the US. Admittedly, this was a few years ago, and you're not in the US, and I have no idea where I saw this. ::ponders, then shrugs:: If I had any tolerance for pain, that would so be an inspiring idea. Very, very cool.
Horray for questions! I'll make sure I keep asking, then! (but seriously, if I do get pesky, don't hesitate to tell me to back down)

As for the tattoos, I know a couple of people who have them hidden under their watch faces or bands, and didn't know that there were problems in other countries with it. You really can't see either of them, but it's so cool to have em...
Just try to annoy me with questions. ;)
