So, the not-so-bad coworker likes listening to music while we work.

He likes a station that features something called "The Freak Show".
::rolls eyes:: However you cut it, the same dozen or so songs play over and over, practically on a loop. One of them is Lifehouse's "You and Me".

You guessed it, folks. Song fic. Dark, not for kids songfic that just popped into my brain yesterday. At least now when I listen to the song, I no longer cringe, but instead snicker manically.

what day is it
and in what month
this clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up
and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time

All he looked at was Elisa. She stood, braced up between two men, and she simply looked right back. She was still lovely, her hair silver lightening to white, lines of experience, smiles, and glares etched around her face. She had aged so fast, the years gracefully passing into a blur of joy and sadness, events and routine.
By the Dragon, he loved her.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

They both ignored all else in the room, from humans to medical equipment. Nothing else seemed relevant, important. Just the two mates, two souls so entwined that they spoke volumes to each other with every look.
    Love. Mate. Forever.
    Words seemed so inadequate.

All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right
I'm tripping on words
You've got my head spinning
I don't know where to go from here

He knew that people around him were speaking, particularly the man standing by his side. He kept going on and on, speaking words, a priest seeking grounds for absolution.
Goliath didn't care. None of it mattered, neither the head human nor the crowd around them. He only had eyes for her.
    Elisa, my mate.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

She smiled back at him, ignoring the hands that lingered on her arms. Voices rose and fell, and his eyes left her face to focus only on her eyes. Nothing else mattered. They had known the day would come, they had known their fate.
He had known the clock was running out for him. Now that the time had arrived, there was only peace. Only love between the two of them. No fear, no regrets, simply the knowledge that somehow, against all odds, they had found each other.
They stared into each other's eyes, ignoring everything around them even as there was the electric hum as a hammer rose, then fell.

There's something about you now
I can't quite figure out
Everything she does is beautiful
Everything she does is right

He roared - not screamed, but roared. Elisa couldn't help but give a tiny smile, simply because it was the same roar that had greeted her at night for years. It was the same roar that had met every careful, loving night of sex, intimacy, and snuggling. It was the same roar that was uniquely his.
She stepped towards him, ignoring the gloved hands trying to hold her back. Their eyes held even as hands jerked her back, as hammers rose and fell, and stars tried to burst through her vision, and tried to obscure Goliath.
They failed. The stars, the hammers, the voices and bodies that moved and traveled and finally left - nothing could obscure his eyes, their connected souls.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

When they were alone, they were still looking into each other's souls. She felt oddly light as she pulled herself to her feet, the pain falling away like shooting stars that disappeared into the ocean. She walked over to Goliath - helping him up for once. He smiled at her; that same gentle, easy, and loving smile that was so impossibly tender. They held hands, the same way they held eyes. Even as they kept staring at each other, they walked towards the nearest window. She was the one who stopped, seeking answers in his eyes. He nodded, that sly glint of humor and love shading his eyes with mischief he showed so rarely.
She trusted him. In many ways, she had always trusted him.
Elisa spread wings she hadn't realized she had, then the two flew out into the night, soaring up to greet, then join, the morning sun.

What day is it?
And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive

Gargs and You and Me belong to their respective owners. I'm just the lunatic mashing them together for no reward beyond quieting the voices in my head for a time.
