I'm ringing in the first post of the year with my slash icon.

....yuuuup. Ohkay.

Archive of Our Own has updated the Yuletide 2013 fic dump of awesomeness, and while I've been bookmarking like a madwoman, thought I'd mention a few favorites (mind, I'm still working my way through the Sleepy Hollow section, but for the moment here's what I got).

Four Things that Weren't Adequately Covered in Mulan's R.A. Training - Disney Princesses in college, with crack!
Neither Money Nor Praise - Sleepy Hollow meets Assassin's Creed 3. I had no idea I wanted to see a lengthy saga about this crossover, but now I totally do. And I haven't even seen more than about 20 minutes of AC1.
Matched Set - Ichabod Crane vs. Ikea - yes, just as wonderfully insane as it sounds.
Demeter's Anger - describes as Olympian Noir, in which Demeter kind of rules the world.

I have also only just now learned of the Ron is Dumbledore theory, and I am left to boggle at people, go "whut?" in a very flat tone of voice, and then hide under the futon.

Also I beat Brothers, and if you have not played that game go and take the 4 hours to do so and be prepared for the feels.

My Christmas haul is unexpectedly good this year since mine honorable brother and his lovely wife are visiting the relatives for some of the same time I am. He's left a bunch of media with our parents, and I got to bring home any that I wanted (though I'm treating it as holding on to them rather than they are mine now, muwahah!).

Top criteria for PS2 games?

If I think Coyo writes fic about it or I've seen Dogmatix draw something about it or mention it in passing or anything really. Nope, not a fangirl at allllll.

Apparently top criteria for DVDs was "how likely am I to pick up foreign languages from this?"

Also, anyone have recommendations for learning languages? I always hear about Rosetta Stone as the product with the best/most pervasive advertising, but I'm not sure I want to take that route for picking up Portuguese.

So. Life and stuff.

Yup. It's stuff.

On a side topic, Quindar and I have been enjoying Kingdoms of Amular lately. There's some lovely story, and it sometimes feels like WoW lite (and single player), so it's a nice bit of fun.

The voice acting in particular is fantastic (aside from some ballads that we agree were sourced out to the interns), and there's this one voice actor.... I've gone and looked up IMDB, and I was surprised, because to my ear, while I wouldn't say you can't throw a rock without Gideon Emery going "ouch," it seemed damned close - except apparently he didn't work on the game. It just sounds like it? So, for what it's worth, it's probably Cam Clark (Medivh) or Robin Atkin Downes (the male Demon hunter) instead - and both of whom I shamelessly fangirl anyways.

So if anyone's looking for a casual, but long game, there you go. :)

....so..... remember Dem legs? They're impressive legs. In veddy sexy heels.

Today - well, don't ask me where I found this.*

I need to play Assassin's Creed one of these days.

* apparently based on All the Single Ladies instead - curse my lack of pop culture! Sorry!

Oh. My. GOD. First time I've seriously considered putting a windows partition on my mac.

Ohhh man, for 4 bucks? I'm seriously thinkin' Christmas (...and.... snagging use of one of Quindar's desktops?)!

From a blog:

It was not in my nature to be an assertive person. I was used to looking to others for guidance, for influence, sometimes for the most basic cues of life. And yet writing stories is one of the most assertive things a person can do. Fiction is an act of willfulness, a deliberate effort to reconceive, to rearrange, to reconstitute nothing short of reality itself. Even among the most reluctant and doubtful of writers, this willfulness must emerge. Being a writer means taking the leap from listening to saying, “Listen to me.

A Tiger and Bunny amv that is just LOVELY, and enough to suck me into Hulu (heeeeeelp!). No idea of how spoilery it is.

Bastion. Play. This. Game. It's just... wow.

In other news, I've been writing more. Might have something soon. :3 If the beta doesn't think I'm totally off my rocker. We'll see.

Dear Zahadoom:

Hepzibet would like to thank you for the 7 gold repair bill from Coren frikkin' DIREBREW. Yes, the 3 minute holiday dungeon boss, wherein the whole party wiped.

I almost hadn't thought that was possible. It's not the money that bugs me, it's that. we. WIPED.

Sir, I would like to congratulate you on achieving 85 (... 18 hours before running said holiday dungeon), and having blood spec, but that does not make you a tank. Gods, you didn't even have Thrall's purple persian rug geared, and that's an easy half hour THING that, even if you hadn't snaffled the tank cape, you'd at least have something more than an heirloom cloak. Or, you know, you could've used something other than Wrath trinkets.

I hope the armory hasn't caught up with the changes you made, and you were in fact better geared, but I wasn't about to try to inspect you while the dwarves were beating my hunter's face in, you were going down like tissue paper, and I felt totally justified in using Gift of the Naruu to try to help the healer keep you standing. My shale spider might not have tanked spectacularly, but I at least could try to keep adds off the healer long enough for her to rez you so you could jump in again.

However, healer, you might be terrifyingly well equipped in full purples, and possibly quite spectacular at PvP, but telling the "tank" that "you suck" before dropping was not a useful comment. Thank you for staying the whole dungeon, but wow.

no love,
Hep and the cranky player

So I have no consistent internet access, and some spare time on my hands, so I'm tossing together something I've been meaning to do for awhile.

I like video games. And there are some out there that are way more kickass than you might think. So here's a few recommendations for y'all! These are either games I personally have finished or seen played (by Quindar) to the end. Presumably spoiler free, unless you are very very VERY harsh about what you think spoilers are.

I want a job. No, really, I honestly do. It's not just the niggling feeling of "but there's so much I could be doing!" - it's a way to develop sanity, or something.

I don't really have connections. I sure as hell don't have much job experience. I've been doing the same thing for 5 years, and before that, in all practical terms nada.

It is, indeed, a bit overwhelming. Especially since while I like working with people, I don't particularly have ambitions towards - well, something other than a job well done that pays decently. I'd like to try office work, I think. Or maybe receptionist thingys. PNC won't seem to hire me, though I'm trying to be upbeat and positive and reminding myself to keep applying or something like that.

Mostly, I wanna crawl under a desk and just hide there. Crazy intimidating, Monster.com and Post-Gazette's job site and suchlike.

Deep breath. C'mon. Angst session over now.

In totally different news: Played an hour of God of War (the original, not the 'latest and greatest'). It was like having to endure the insufferable dinner party with Darksiders' ugly, mentally deficient cousin that no one wants to talk about, while one really just wants to go hang out with Darksiders. Who may be broody, gothic, and clearly hates everyone, but at least means it, rather than staring blankly at your conversational gambits before going back to picking his nose in as grotesque a manner as possible.

... or... something.

but it does weird things to me.

The radio is playing Black Magic Woman by Santana.

I dislike both the band and the song, but I play Guitar Hero 3.

So I've got the crazy visuals of the desert venue and the trippy streams of color flowing out over an audience, while sitting in a nice sunny atrium.

Also - any time Hit Me With Your Best Shot comes on the radio, I no longer even need to hear more than a few beats to recognize it (and start wondering where the chick with the blonde dreds is).

Not quite as bad as closing my eyes and seeing a shot of the greek stage of Sonic Unleased, with a moon medal to the right in a scene that prolly doesn't really exist, but still.

yay xbox?
